Kung Fu, Steaks and Tears

I came back home only six weeks ago, but how can it feel like such an eternity away already? The simple answer is that I've been cramming my weeks so full of things to do that the time flies has slipped away with the endless stream of sweat. Against my better judgment I've driven myself into writing this in the middle of the day two hours before I'm supposed to catch a train to Edinburgh, so I apologize for the cursory manner of this entry.

Coming back to work was hard as ever after all those days of hanging on to the bike for dear life. Already on the second week the pace of rehearsals was set fairly high and it has been relentless ever since resulting in a few minor injuries and an exhausted looking and feeling company before we've even set foot into the theatre. There have also been a few casting issues that have frustrated the dancers unnecessarily much contributing to the general tiredness. Why can't people just make a decision in good time and let everyone involved know at the same time? That would make life far too undramatic, I guess. At least just about everybody knows just about everything that's probably going on for the next few days, so we're all perfectly happy and settled and concentrating entirely on the job at hand...

Whinging aside the pieces themselves are looking pretty good and the programme is another interesting one with plenty of punch and variation. I'm really looking forward to seeing both the Trisha Brown piece and Ashley's Symmetries on stage!

To give my mind a little respite from work I've tried my best to keep myself busy outside of work. A few steaks and beers and some late night kung fu in the kitchen always helps, but the jewel in my extra-curricular activities was most definitely a weekend spent in London for the 10th anniversary of my college, Millennium Dance 2000. I was sitting there in the back of the auditorium flushed with memories, smiling with tears running down my cheeks. Big up to my teachers, Jacki, Ikky, Donald, Sarah and the rest of the bunch! May the next decade be as fruitful!

Amongst all the soppyness I managed to fit in a massive water fight and some early hours reminiscing of who we used to be with an old friend. That particular weekend refreshed me suitably to get my arse in gear and get back into some harder physical training and to get involved with some martial arts again... So that's where all that time went and that's why I'm now hurting like a hedgehog on a croquet field...

Time to go dodge attention whores in Edinburgh. Tha-tha-tha-That's All Folks!
