Isn’t it typical that the most beautiful weather in London occurs when you’re committed to staying indoors! The bright warm weather was wonderfully relaxing as we drove through London's West End to the much anticipated Waldorf Tango Tea.

The tea itself was superb with a range of pastries and sandwiches, refreshing fresh leaf teas and Pommery Brut Champagne. Despite missing breakfast (even with help) it was the first time ever I’ve been unable to finish it all.

"Tango Tea" was a bit of a misnomer as the event held far more ballroom and jive than tango. While it's not a conventional tea dance rhythm, I tried requesting salsa and was surprised to discover that the band genuinely didn't know a single number! . Jules Kerby of the Waldorf Hilton says they’ll review the next tea dance format. It will be interesting to see the results.

The disappointment of being unable to find a professional partner with whom to dance Argentine tango was assuaged by a tanda with the wonderful Ron. He and Margo; his wife, are enthusiastic tangueros, charming people and great company. Down to London for the weekend, the Waldorf’s Tango Tea was one in a long and exciting list of tango teas, milongas and other events in their schedule.

The simply dancing partners service enabled us to dance as much as we liked with guys who were great dancers and lovely people as well. Inspired by learning jive and foxtrot with a handsome 23 year-old, Jade is looking for lessons. We’ll pitch another joint article on that.

I’m looking forward to coming back for the next tea dance on 16th September and am pretty sure that Jade is too.

The next Waldorf Tango Teas is on September 16th.
