Brian's Final diary

Well, the tour is over and we have all graduated.

The final week for me was very sad, but also stressful. As I was injured I couldn’t dance – however, I was asked to help backstage for the school’s summer performances at the Bloomsbury, acting as stage manager. I really enjoyed the job, but it was heart wrenching to watch my fellow class mates go on stage and perform whilst I was sitting in the wings. It was especially hard in the final Ballet Central performance as my father came up to London to watch it.

The following day was Graduation. Each of us performs a solo which we have researched and rehearsed. As I couldn’t dance, I had decided to do a monologue originally performed by Stephen Fry called ‘The Letter’. It takes the Dracula story and turns it into a comedy. I chose it for its connections to the pas de deux from Michael Pink’s Dracula that I performed earlier in the tour. The performance went really well and I was very relieved to hear everyone laughing at the right points.

We have now all gone our separate ways. I have worked at Donnington race track for a week, mainly to raise some money to get me to Prague for the two-week masterclasses. And then it is back on the audition trail…
