The new season has just started with the tour of Bolshi Ballet with gala programmes,including "Kingdom of the Shades"scene of La Bayadere(Nina Ananiashivili was fantastic Nikiya and perfect corps de ballet of 24 shades were absolutely perfect at the performance I went ). The Bolshoi will give performances of "Giselle" and "Don Quixote" from next week. Sylvie Guillem will give her recital performance series called "Sylvie On Stage" in November. She will dance Nikiya with Laurent Hilaire as Solor in Kingdom of the Shade Scene of "La Baydere" and Maurice Bejart's" Racine Cubique" in mixed programme,and "Sleeping Beauty" with Nicholas Le Riche. Jonathan Cope was expected as her pertner in both ballets (La Bayadere and Sleeping Beuty) but he has cancelled his schedule because of his physical condition.We all hope he will recover soon. Also in November, K Ballet Company will start their second tour in Japan.Tickets has been completely sold out and again, we do not have any details of the shows; who will dance with the company as guest principal ballerinas and how many ballets they dance a night. New National Theatre Tokyo(NNTT) Ballet will premiere Frederick Ashton's "Cinderella" for Christmas performances. Miyako Yoshida, a principal with the Royal Ballet will dance Cinderella as a guest artist.I hope Japanese audience love this heartwarming fairy tale ballet with very witty and funny ugly stepsisters' dances. Two strong group performances will heat up our cold winter. The one is "Maunel Legirs and Paris Opera stars" in January 2000, and the other is "Jose Manuel Carrenio and Latin dancers" in Feburary. Legris will lead very experinced ballerinas, Moniques Lediere and Elizabeth Platel (both ex Etoiles of Paris Opera Ballet)and also very promising young dancers of the company. This gala will be dedicated to Rudolf Nureyev, so they display extracts from his legacies like Raymonda, Romeo and Juliet and Cinderella. Jose Manuel Carrenio(ex principal dancer with the Royal Ballet, now a pricipal dancer with ABT and Cuba National Ballet)will lead very energetic Latin dancers,with his ideal partner, Paloma Herrera. The Royal Danish Ballet will give authentic Bournonville style ballets "Napoli" and "La Sylphide" in April. I expect they introduce their new Bournonville style dancers after several years of their last visit to Japan.
The seson will close with one of the biggest ballet gala of the world,
"World Ballet Festival", which is held in every 3 years in Japan.
Aurelie Dupond and Manuel Legirs with The Tokyo Ballet company will
curtain up the gala weeks with the performance of Sleeping Beauty.
Sylvie Guillem, Vladimir Malakhov and many many more big names will be
expected to dance at a night.We just expect a lot of surprises at the
last special gala night.
