What's New on Ballet.co

Over the summer we have added or changed more then a few pages. Here is what we've been up to:

Dancers pages

Jenny took on the updating of all the Dancer Details we have and at the same time adding lots of links that raid our various databases so you can easily find any (and all) references to dancers that we hold in Reviews, Interviews and Listings sections. Margaret revised the ENB dancers and Stuart came up with our Rambert entries. Lynette also contributed to the RB section. Regrettably NBT entries remain scant though we got a page ready.

Interviews, Views and News

Our old page was starting to get unwieldy and I have now converted all the entries into a searchable database similar to the reviews database we have had for some time. Currently there are about 180 entries in there and as usual we have an Easy search and Advanced search page to get at all the information.

Reviews Database

A small but useful change - the Advanced Search page has had many more fields added so, for example, you can now easily search by dancer.

Links Page

Lots of changes here. The major one is to allow people to enter websites links for themselves. We are always getting requests for cross links which we never had the time to action quickly (if at all) so this will be much quicker for other webmasters and for readers who see a nice site that they think others should be aware of. Also the links are broken down into various categories which will hopefully make it easier to find sites of interest. Do all please add lots of links soonest.

Random Link

We've also added a 'random link' link that takes you to one of the many sites that we hold links to. This will be a real time waster I'm sure!

Companies Page

All the Companies Details have been thoroughly updated and a kind reader sent in some super entries for a number of dance companies in the UK. This helps significantly broaden our coverage and on many pages you will now see many more options associated with companies. Also all the entries for companies can raid the Interviews, and News database to haul out relevant details.

Story

For fun we have introduced an interactive Story Page... the idea is that you can add your own chapters and each chapter can be taken forward in two ways. This could all get very silly and surreal. Enjoy.

Page changes

Hopefully you have already started to notice the return of our dancers on the right hand side of your screens. We've really missed them and as we touch pages, and create new ones, we will progressively be adding the dancers back.

Videos

We now have a master page that lists all the Video Reviews we've done. Should make life easier.

Costume Page returns

We have had more requests for the return of the Costume Page than any other and at long last I have brought it back. However it's probably not what people were necessarily expecting and we see it as the nucleus for a clutch of pages about costume. Do help us add to them

Theatres Page

A couple of new entries have been added to the Theatres Page. Stuart kindly generated the words

Search page

Of all the additions the Search is probably the most useful and certainly took the longest time to sort out. Currently we have 390 static pages on the site so there is a lot information to sift. Our search pages is fast and flexible so do have a look at all the clever things you can do with it when you get a chance. Or just type away, as you would with any search!

Home Page changes

We've changed our Home Page so that the most popular parts of the site are instantly available by hot links. We've also included a little search site box.

How Big is Ballet.co

Finally many people often ask how big we are and following a massive purging of old files we now know with some accuracy! Overall we have about 390 pages of static information; that's pages like the one you are looking at now. But we also have pages that are generated automatically to give you just the information you want.

At any one time we have about 600 entries in our Listings database, which probably is the equivalent of 50 static pages. Similarly we have over 500 reviews links and again this is probably 50 static pages worth. Our Interview database probably represents 10 pages and our Postings back catalogue (1200 entries!) another 50 - 100 pages. Finally the new links page generates the equivalent of 10 pages. Putting all this together gives a grand size of about 560 to 600 pages. Its a lot of stuff!

Tally Ho and my great thanks to all who contributed.

Bruce
