{The following is as it appeared on the postings page as soon as we heard of Gables death} I have just read that Christopher Gable has died of cancer. He had been ill for some time but it still comes as a shock. Regrettably I never saw him dance, but Jane wrote a page about him for our Legends section (find it under the Contexts menu) and the section title alone says an awful lot about his position in British ballet. I admired him particularly for what he achieved at Northern Ballet Theatre where, as Artistic Director, he put acting at the very forefront of dance performances and in so doing made ballet relevant to so many people. He took a high art form and made it accessible to everybody. There have been precious few with that gift and he used it so successfully, without any fuss or bother. All those who love ballet will be saddened by this news and our condolences naturally go to his family and all at NBT.
There is a Memorial Service in London planned. It is at St. James's in Piccadilly on the 7th December at 15:00 hours and all who appreciated and loved Christopher are welcome.
