Sleeping B reviews

{The following is as it appeared on the Postings page of Ballet.co}

Just got back from seeing Sleeping Beauty. An enthusiastic (full house) Newcastle Theatre Royal audience applauded everything (sometimes at inappropriate moments).

Mixed feelings about it - costumes beautiful, female corps a bit clumpy but, to be fair, that may be down to the quality of the Theatre Royal stage. On the whole the male dancers had it - prince very supportive and an excellent Bluebird male (Vitaly Zabelin) got the whoops and whistles for his footwork. Just a little something missing and I'm not sure what. Maybe just a little lack of spark and drama. Could be I'm spoilt after watching BRB's Monica Zamora and Kevin O'Hare in R&J a couple of weeks ago.

Also I'd forgotten what a hack Tchaikovsky can be in some passages. He does go on a bit.
