I have to disagree completely - I thought Tuesdays Manon led by Marquez and Putrov was an outstanding performance. It was a good example of the power of this ballet, and the genius of Macmillan, when competlely different interpretations can re-invigorate and refresh it.

Ivan Putrov invested Des Grieux with real romantic ardour, dancing with passion and sweep, and partnering very well especially in the final scene.

Roberta Marquez is a very knowing Manon from the outset, ready to grab every opportunity and revelling in the power of her sexuality. Her face strongly registered each quicksilver change of mood in Act II, but by Act III she seemed completely destroyed and dazed by the actions of the Gaoler.

Brian Maloney was a superb Lescaut, very strong dancing and quite vile as a character. His treatment of Helen Crawford's rather sweet Mistress was brutal.

With Gary Avis playing Monsieur GM as a lascivious preening monster, you would not be surprised that the Manon-Lescaut-GM pas de trois, and the final scene of Act II were especially thrilling in thier dramatic intensity.

John's pictures illustrate their performance very well!
