As posted on our Postings pages... I saw five performances over the weekend and am pleased to say that I enjoyed them as much as the performances I saw at the Lowry in January. I saw three Auroras and three Florimunds and all were excellent, bringing different dimensions to each performance. Nao Sakuma and Chi Cao gave two wonderful performances. Nao grows in stature in every performance and her Rose Adagio is so wonderful it brings a lump to the throat every time. Chi Cao's dancing continues to be exceptional and his solos in the Vision Scene and Act 3 were breath-taking in their virtuosity. He also looked as though he was really enjoying himself as a Prince on Saturday night! Ambra Vallo and Robert Parker were magnificent on Saturday night. Again, Ambra's Rose Adagio was a joy to behold. Robert and Ambra were scintillating in the Grand pdd in Act 3.
Iain Mackay and Letizia Giuliana continue to cement their blossoming partnership. I still think she's a little tentative in the Rose Adagio but she grows in confidence throughout the performance and is radiant in the Grand pdd. Iain Mackay is a wonderful partner and is constantly showing a generosity of spirit towards all his partners. He and Nao gave the most magical performance together on Sunday afternoon when Nao filled in at, presumably, fairly short notice.

There are so many delights in this production and so many performances to savour. Of the girls, Laura Purkiss sparkled in every performance, never more so than in the Fairy variation she has made her own. Carrie Johnson and Arancha Baselga are always a delight to watch. Steven Monteith was excellent as the "senior" prince in the Rose Adagio. Kosuke Yamamoto was magical in Bluebird with Momoko Hirato on Sunday afternoon - he has such a wonderful soft leap and a very pleasing stage presence. Alexander Campbell and Joseph Caley are consolidating their positions as ones to watch.
We followers of BRB are very lucky to be able to watch the company at the moment as there is so much talent at all levels. It is really quite unfair to pick individuals out but the people I've mentioned above tend to catch my eye at every performance.
