As posted on our Postings pages...

I enjoyed very much yesterday the evening performance of Nutcracker.

I don't really care for the ballet in itself, and I feel there's maybe not enough dancing in it, but it was brilliantly danced and acted yesterday. Evgenia Obraztsova is a big favourite of mine and she did not disappoint me; she's made for Masha/Clara, light and cute as she is, and she gave an excellent performance, acting with such natural and grace. Her technique is assured (much more in a way than other young dancers of the Mariinsky, maybe because she doesn't have to deal with incredibly long legs - what do others think ?), and everything seems easy and fun with her... There's something about Obraztsova that makes the audience love her right away. A star in the making, and I hope the Mariinsky will keep giving her roles, despite her being small or whatever.

She was very well partnered by Andrian Fadeyev, though his role is not very big in this version - he doesn't get much dancing, but he was really good in the pas de deux and he did a beautiful solo.

I also wanted to mention how good Yekaterina Osmolkina, Tatiana Tkachenko and others were ; all roles were well-performed, especially Drosselmeyer (Anton Adassinsky), a brilliant actor. Yana Selina stood out among the four sisters ; she needs to be mentioned for all her demi-soloist roles during this Paris tour, for she was good however small the role...

A nice conclusion to the tour, and now I hope we won't have to wait another three years to see them again in Paris, for this is a really great company indeed.
