As posted on our Postings pages... I was there yesterday for the second night of the Forsythe program. Somehow, unfortunately, Daria Pavlenko did not appear yesterday, and I very much hope that she'll make it to Paris for Prodigal Son on Monday. So instead we got : Steptext : Diana Vishneva, Igor Kolb, Andreï Merkuriev, Maxim Khrebtov The Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude : Tatyana Tkachenko, Olesya Novikova, Evguenia Obrastzova, Leonid Sarafanov, Vladimir Shklyarov In the Middle, Somewhat Elevated: Irina Golub, Ekaterina Kondaurova, Olesya Novikova, Yana Serebryakova, Yana Selina, Ketevan Papava, Andreï Merkuriev, Anton Pimonov, Mikhaïl Lobukhin I must say that seeing Vishneva was a real treat as she's really made Steptext her own. She was just flying into the air with her endless extensions... And she was very well partnered - I especially liked Igor Kolb, who seems to be such a versatile dancer (as I'd liked him very much as well in Swan Lake and as Romeo) In The Vertiginous Thrill, Tatyana Tkachenko looked somewhat clueless in her solo. I guess she wasn't in a good day, she seemed to be having trouble with the choreography. On the contrary, Olesya Novikova held her own, and Leonid Sarafanov and Evgenia Obraztsova truly sparkled - Obraztsova just litting up the stage for me.
I was most impressed by In the Middle. I was very much looking forward to Pavlenko, but Irina Golub made me forget every regret I might have had ; she was simply amazing - such style and technique, she was absolutely fearless, a thrill to watch - as were Andrei Merkuriev and Ekaterina Kondaurova. Kondaurova is extremely well-suited to the choreography, and she and the whole cast got wild cheers at the end from the audience, who obviously loved it.
