Tens of works down the line and Christopher is now an internationally known and respected choreographer. So which far flung place is he in this time...
Here is a link to the previous column in the series.
This seasons first performance was on Christmas Eve, so travelling to see friends and family was not an option this year (nor any year since 1982 coming to think of it). But my family came down to London this year and I'll give you one guess as to which Christmas Show I took them to see… Wrong. Anything Goes was excellent. Superb songs, energy, fabulous dance routines and go and see it. Most of this Christmas I've been thinking about Easter. This April sees the premiere of my Giselle (http://www.narodni-divadlo.cz/B_Zaklad.aspx?jz=en). I leave these shores mid January and don't return until the job is done in mid April. I've been reading Cyril Beaumont's inspiring and pithy account of productions since its first outing in Paris until the Markova/Dolin for Festival Ballet. I've also been battling with the score. Very difficult to get ones hands on a version as it's been mucked about with quite a bit. I've been working closely with Sergey, the National Theatre's Chief Conductor on getting a version that will work for us. There will be quite an entourage going to Prague: Caroline Palmer (notator), Bruce French (designer), Mark Cooper (lighting designer) and myself. Next up is Atlanta Ballet in the U.S., The Ensemble Group in Edinburgh then Royal New Zealand Ballet presenting Romeo and Juliet and Saltarello at the Sadlers' Wells and English National Ballet doing Double Concerto in Barcelona, April has become a busy month. And just to make sure I don't stay too long in the bars of Prague I'm off to Sweden in March to cast Double Concerto for when they present it in Stokholm in November.
Postcards from Prague are promised.
