| Special Mention | I loved M&A with Guillem and Le Riche. Darcey Bussell's Giselle-even though by her own admission it is not her best role-I found it very moving. In general I'd like to see the management (RB)utilising more of their hidden talent, and not overworking a select few! | |

| Best Production Overall | RB Giselle, despite dingy lighting | |
| Best New Production | "V" just about over "Double Concerto" | |
| Best Revival | RB Onegin | |
| Best Staging | ||
| Best Home Company | RB - just about | |
| Best Visiting Company | a toss-up between Alvin Ailey and Mark Morris | |
| Best Male Dancer | Kobborg - excellent in most things | |
| Best Female Dancer | Yoshida | |
| Best Partnership | Cojocaru/Kobborg | |
| Most Promising Male | RB 'sJohannes Stepanek, BRB's Iain Mackay, who keeps attracting my attention, I hope for the right reasons! | |
| Most Promising Female | ENB's Begona Cao, delightful in Who Cares? and others, and RB's Laura Morera, who stands out even in a crowd | |
| Worst Production | PNB's Silver Lining | |
| Special Mention | Great performances: Cojocaru/Corella stunning in Don Q - just about justified putting it on. Alvin Ailey Co. in "Revelations" - even better than last time. Yoshida's Swanilda - a total delight. Kobborg's Onegin debut - a fully-fledged portrayal. Rojo's Giselle pdd at the Mukhamedov Gala - literally out of this world! Kobborg/Cojocaru in Giselle. The Trocks in Gaîté Parisienne - huge fun, and obviously having a whale of a time. Rojo, Whitehead, Yanowsky and Cope in various Carmens. Other positives: Nao Sakuma's promotion to principal at BRB and her Swan Lake debut. Pleased to see a number of good ballets (particularly Hampson/Wheeldon) by young British choreographers - Double Concerto still delights even after several viewings.
Bad - RB: injury problems, underuse of good dancers and concentration on casting youth at the expense of experience. Inadequate notification of casting - both in terms of changes and major secondary characters. A series of generally unmemorable triple bills. Loss of Sarah Wildor - suspect it will make itself particularly felt in Manon and Mayerling this year. The Jubilee Gala - not a good dish to set before a Queen. Extortionate, upward-spiralling prices at ROH may be affordable to occasional balletgoers but are forcing regulars away.
Bad - other: BRB's season at Sadler's Wells, admittedly hit by injury, gave some cause for concern about standards, although it also pointed up some potentially promising dancers. Retirement of Michael O'Hare - he will be greatly missed.
Another thought: I would very much like to see Tamara Rojo get a reasonably regular partner who can match her in terms of dancing and interpretation.
| Eye-opener of the Year | Gary Avis - I knew his acting was improving a lot by the time he left the RB, but as Tybalt in ENB's Nureyev production of R&J his performance almost blew me away.
The latest dire straits saga of Scottish Ballet - let's hope they get people in charge who have the company and audience's best interests at heart.
The Frankfurt Ballet saga - made me believe even more fervently that predominantly local funding is not the answer.

| Eye-opener of the Year | Carlos Acosta was a dazzling Basil in DQ, despite the horrible production. Kirov Ballet's corps are getting better and better every year. | |

| Special Mention | Rojo & Cooper in Onegin, Bussell & Yanowsky in In the Middle, Cojocaru & Kobborg in Romeo & Juliet (though RB orchestra could not have been more different from LSO under Rostropovich), Yoshida & Cope and Cojocaru & Corella were really special in dull DonQ, Yoshida & Rojo & Galeazzi(separately) at Mukhamedov's Gala and Edur in anything! | |
| Eye-opener of the Year | Adagio for Strings by ENB students was simple yet far more moving than say extravagant star studded Beyond Bach. Golden Jubilee Gala was less satisfactory than Beryl Grey or Mukhamedov's Galas. I love RB but there were so many disappointments in the last season. | |

| Special Mention | "On your Toes" I loved the musical very much. Adam Cooper is not only a showstopper on stage but very gifted choreographer.
Yurie Shinohara and Patrick Armand danced Giselle (Produciton: Derek Deane) in Japan. I was so moved by their perfect deep dance-drama. I needed 2 packs of tissues .
| Eye-opener of the Year | Lauren Cuthbertson and Martin Harvey gave us the very special impression in Cathy Marston's "Between Shadows".
Thomas Edur as, Drosselmeier, Apollo and the leading guy in "Who Cares ?" was the happiest moment during the year for me :-)

| Eye-opener of the Year | Realising how crucial a good conductor is to a ballet performance, and what a small community of good ballet conductors there is. This only dawned on us when we discovered that Graham Bond (who conducted R&J at the ROH) conducted the very first ballet my wife and I saw together over a quarter of a century ago - LFB's Nutcracker at the Liverpool Empire (1976). | |

Yanowsky in Carmem - she stole the show for me although only just from a hilarious Johnny Cope.

| Most Promising Female | Natasha Oughtred | |
| Worst Production | Mats Ek's "Carmen" | |
| Special Mention | It's not been a good season - especially at the Royal Ballet, where my optimism for the future has really taken a nose dive. Some real dross repertoire including "Carmen", which I never want to see again ever. Amazed people seem to think that everything was wonderful under Anthony Dowell - he was a useless director, and the RB went into a real decline under him. At least Ross Stretton has improved some quality (but not enough) to the corps de ballet.
On the plus side it's been a good season for Cojocaru & Yanowsky, who have given the best ballerina performances in Britain. A pleasure to see Belinda Hatley back at the end of the season, and Marianela Nunez really took off with some whizz bang shows. Mystery of the year - the promotion of Mara Galeazzi. Just don't understand what people see in her.

| Eye-opener of the Year | I appear to be very much in the minority - but I really enjoyed the breadth and variety of the RB's 2001-2002 season - for me it was an excellent mix, with some superlative performances | |

| Eye-opener of the Year | Yoshida turning a very dull Don Q into gold. The RB's calculated snub to Dame Beryl's gala - why ? How tired and drained Cojocaru was at a masterclass at the end of a long day (still gorgeous though, but it just didn't seem fair to ask her to do more). | |

Very Good: Oaks and Edur's DonQ pdd at the Dame Beryl Grey gala was simply perfect. Great: The single moment Kobborg's Romeo caught sight of Cojocaru's Juliet at the ball - pure, intense, magic.

A couple of years back I was chatting to one of the reviewers for an Edinburgh paper. She said "Scottish Ballet aren't very good and if you can see them, don't bother". How wrong she was! Not much wrong with their Carmen performed against a minimalistic set.

Witnessing previously unacknowleged dancers (eg Brian Maloney), being picked for solo roles (Carmen) and old favourites being left of roles they are noted for (Vanessa Palmer as Myrtha). Ups and downs, interesting bills, flourishing young talent.

The increasing national acclaim for the work of Christopher Hampson and Cathy Marston - both created excellent works this year. RB's Lauren Cuthbertson

Tryst was mesmerising - more of the same please! Bussell and Bolle were so fresh and delightful in R&J, it surprisingly turned out to be one of my favourite performances ever. Cathy Marston's work in the Clore. Yoshida and Cope were a joy to watch in Don Q.
| Eye-opener of the Year | Ross Stretton. I tried to stay optimistic and open to him throughout the year but the hopeless gala and the general discontent in recent weeks has opened my eyes a little. The fact that a dancer of Miyako Yoshida's calibre has been ignored and wasted last season upsetted me. | |
