Christopher Hampson,
In Prague...

Christopher Hampson, formerly a dancer and choreographer with ENB, has been keeping a diary for us since November 97. Initially he covered the creation of his new ballet ‘Country Garden’ but since then there have been lots of other ballets, and he is now a freelance choreographer and ballet master for City Ballet of London...

Here is a link to the previous column in the series.

4th August

City of a thousand spires...bars, theatres, art deco buildings and only a few hundred people.

I'm only here for a few days, to choreograph a very special solo for a very special person. Daria Klimentova is currently 5 months pregnant and has commissioned a solo from me, to perform when she is 7 months heavy. How could I refuse??

Daria's husband is Mup Comer and it is his fault we've secured a 3 week run of "A Christmas Carol" at the Royal Festival Hall. Mup and I have also come here for some calm before the storm. We are going back to London facing endless meetings with the Royal Festival Hall, auditioning dancers, actors, acrobats and a two hour show to start creating.

Already the set is built and is at the painters, we've had one photo-shoot, costume fittings, and I haven't even choregraphed a step yet... and I can't wait!

Until I write again (which I PROMISE will be soon [yea, yea!: Ed]) I'm going to watch class at the National Theatre and then start creating for a pregnant Ballerina... What else would a choreographer be doing in Prague?
