RAD Revealing MacMillan Conference Saturday 12 / 13 October 2002 Contributors include Lynn Seymour, Anthony Dowell, Monica Mason and Sir Peter Wright, Donald MacLeary and Deborah MacMillan On 12 and 13 October, the Royal Academy of Dance hosts Revealing MacMillan, the first ever conference on the life and work of the extraordinary choreographer, Sir Kenneth MacMillan. A central part of the year-long International Celebration of Kenneth MacMillan, Revealing MacMillan promises wide-ranging views of MacMillan’s career and his remarkable legacy. The Conference brings together professional and scholarly knowledge to cast fresh light on the works. Activities range from workshops for students from GCSE level to graduating professionals - passing on British dance heritage to a younger generation. Over the two days, there will be presentations of academic papers and screenings of rare archive footage, as well as workshops, masterclasses, demonstrations, interviews and discussions. The Benesh Notation scores housed at the Academy will be used in workshops and masterclasses. Contributors include renowned interpreters of MacMillan’s work, notators and repetiteurs, his artistic collaborators and colleagues, dance writers and academics and some of today’s leading performers.

Luke Rittner, Chief Executive of the Royal Academy of Dance, said: "At its heart the Royal Academy of Dance has both an artistic and an educational mission. The two will be represented perfectly when we stage this conference. It will be an opportunity to pay tribute to a great artist and will at the same time be an opportunity to explore and develop understanding of MacMillan, the man and his work. Like the man himself we hope the conference will challenge, delight, fascinate and perhaps even shock its participants."
