A pioneer of British contemporary dance, Siobhan Davies studied art before joining the first year of full-time students at the London School of Contemporary Dance, from where she joined the Company and soon began to choreograph. She has had her own company, which only performs her work, since the 1980s. Performances usually consist of two pieces, usually to music by living composers which is played live. With remarkable settings and lighting design, the abstract choreography is rich, intricate and original, challenging the considerable experience of her wonderful dancers. Davies has won various awards, and took New York by storm at the celebration of British dance mounted in 1997. Anyone interested in dance should experience this company at least once. |
