A company in a state of flux and renewal.

In August 2001 the board decided to reposition the company as 'a major force in contemporary dance' with a 'broadly based modern repertoire'. Questions were raised in the Scottish Parliament, and elsewhere, about the changes and the dancers actively campaigned for the more traditional approach to be retained.

Ballet and dance of course does need to evolve and renew and companies do change - notably Rambert in the 60's and 70's changed completely.

The recent appointment of Ashley Page (ex Royal Ballet dancer, and choreographer) as artistic director now brings the debate to a stop. We look forward to hearing the specifics and seeing what the more modern approach will bring the Scottish audience.
