A company in a state of flux and renewal.

In August 2001 the board decided to reposition the company as 'a major force in contemporary dance' with a 'broadly based modern repertoire'.

Ashley Page (ex Royal Ballet dancer, and choreographer) became artistic director in the summer of 2003 and in his first year there have been many changes, in repertoire for sure, but also in the lineup of dancers and the quality of dancing. Two mixed bills of mainly contemporary work have been complimented by a changed Nutcracker, though one traditional enough for the important Christmas market.

While critically the company is widely seen to be improving and moving forward it will be a while before we know if the wider Scottish audience prefer and support the new modernist approach.
