Based at The Place, the birthplace of contemporary dance in Britain, the company is a classic of the contemporary dance world. Alston trained at the London Contemporary Dance School, and formed the Strider company before going to study with Merce Cunningham, among others, in New York in the late 1970s. He was Artistic Director of Rambert Dance Company prior to returning to the Place as its Artistic Director alongside choreographing and directing his own company. His dances range from the highly abstract and complex to the energetic and accessible. Brilliant dancers, quality choreography and new music make for evenings of dance that are challenging, risky and rewarding. The most recent performances show that the company are on great form. |
