The school was established in 1985 in Leeds. It has recently had a £3.2 million development on site resulting in state of the art dance facilities. The figures for 1997 were that 72% were employed after leaving.
Entry is from the age of 16 and there are 3 courses:
Foundation Course:
This is a one year course designed to prepare students for vocational training in contemporary dance.
Entry is through audition and interview. This is an open access course for people with little or no formal qualifications.
Fees are £681 for students aged over 18 and free for those under.
Diploma Course:
This is a two year BTEC national diploma in Performing Arts (Contemporary Dance).
Entry is through audition and interview plus 4 GCSE passes (including English) at grade C (or above). The object of this course is to allow people with dance potential to obtain a qualification.
Degree Course:
This is a three year Bachelor of Performing Arts course.
Entry is through audition and interview plus 5 GCSE’s and 2 ‘A’ levels. The object of this course is to allow people with dance potential to obtain a degree.
The Diploma and Degree course run in parallel and it is possible for professional dancers and those with HND in Dance to undertake the final year.
Fees, subject to £1,000 contribution, will be paid by the local authority who will also give a mandatory grant. This only applies to UK students.
Further Information and Audition details
There is a video available for potential students. Auditions for the Diploma and Degree courses take the form of 2, 45 minute classes followed by a 2 minute solo and you will be told on the day whether you have been successful.
