The Association puts on a variety of events and produces an impressive news brochure about three times a year. The levels of membership vary from Mailing list at £4 through to Gold at £50 (all 1999 prices). Most people have Bronze membership at £10.
The benefits of membership (which vary according to level) include;
- Priority booking
- Rehearsal (sometimes dress) invitations
- Spectating at company class
- Backstage tours
- Free programmes
- Free and discounted tickets
- Open days at the company headquarters
- Adult beginners ballet classes
- Two Copies of In The Wings magazine
- Social events
The events are fairly evenly spread between London and the tour venues. The
majority cost between £4 and £6 and you can bring a guest. However,
Pru McBeath, the association organiser has always arranged the events in such a
way that you do not feel uncomfortable without a guest.
The Open days include the opportunity to watch morning rehearsal, have lunch
and tour the building. The cost is £15 and places are strictly limited and
unfortunately very much in demand.
The backstage tours when done by Annie Lincoln, the stage manager are highly
informative and entertaining. The adult ballet classes we have attended have been
taken by Craig Randolph, a just recently retired dancer from ENB who is a truly
gifted teacher especially when it comes to taking adult beginners- most of whom
have never danced before. Both Craig and Annie get a lot of repeat business!
