Interviews and views
Self-confessed ‘movement junkie’ Rafael Bonachela has recently been appointed as Associate Choreographer at Rambert and it will be interesting to see his work progress. As a dancer he is versatile and very fluid in his movement. He enjoys movement for the sake of it and when creating a piece of choreography will often not find the music until relatively late in the process. This is not always an advantage but Rafael is always worth watching and his commitment to his art is never in question, whether in his work for Rambert or in his recent ventures into the world of pop videos with Kylie Minogue. He has also recently won a place in Dance Film Academy. The world seems to be his oyster {top}

Interviews and views
One of the tallest of the current Rambert company, Simon Cooper is a powerful dancer, whose stage presence has grown with his confidence over the years. He is very strong in the complex physical choreography of, for example, Wayne McGregor. When a character is required in Rooster, Hurricane or Elsa Canasta he can convey so much by just the twitch of the head or a slightly raised eyebrow. The forthcoming programme for Rambert looks fascinating and it is to be hoped that the recently injured Cooper will once more be in the forefront. {top}

Amy is another of those apparently fierce Rambert dancers who gives her all in performance. Her dancing style and incredible suppleness make her easy to spot even when dressed anonymously, as in the recent Living Toys by Karole Armitage. She and Martin Lindinger have a particular rapport and their partnering is immaculate. Who could forget Amy ‘limping’ onstage on crutches miming to ‘Some Day my Prince will Come’ as part of the wickedly funny The Parade’s Gone By, showing an unexpected gift for comedy? {top}

Yorkshire born Paul is always a delight to watch. His elegance and grace on stage are unmistakeble and he is often central to the action. His quite astonishing physique has obviously stood him in good stead as it is rarely known for him to miss a performance. Three particular examples illustrate Paul’s talents at their finest: Christopher Bruce’s Ghost Dances, Mats Ek’s She was Black and Javier de Frutos’ Elsa Canasta. {top}

Interviews and views
The longest serving female dancer in Rambert, Hope Muir radiates a calm dignity onstage. She excels in the Christopher Bruce style of choreography but has also been great to watch in the more recent pieces by Javier de Frutos. She perhaps does not attack a piece in the same way as some of her colleagues but she is always lyrical and has a lovely classical line when called for. I look forward to seeing her in the new programme for the coming year. {top}

Interviews and views
What Ana lacks in height, she more than makes up for in sheer physical presence. She is one of those performers who draws the eye whenever she is on stage. She is a fearless dancer whose physicality shows itself magnificently in the choreography of McGregor or Bonachela but she a performance that stood out for me in recent years was Bruce’s Grinning in your Face. The sheer energy and joy in performance during “Little Birdy” was something very special. Ana was awarded the 2004 Critics Dance Circle Award for outstanding female artist. {top}

Interviews and views
The opening solo of Wayne McGregor’s PreSentient is a gift for Angela Towler. It is a tortuous piece of movement that Angela has made her own and which displays her consistent strength and balance. She takes her art seriously but obviously thoroughly enjoys a chance to display a character, for example in Javier de Frutos’ The Celebrated Soubrette. {top}

Glen has been dancing with Rambert since 1987 and is a very popular performer. His dance style is at once precise and energetic and his obvious enjoyment of his art shines through. A delightful quirk of Glen’s personality is his ever changing hair colour, sometimes going through several metamorphoses in the course of an evening. He is also a talented choreographer, with several of his pieces becoming part of the repertoire, always thought provoking and refreshing. {top}
