Evgeny Ivanchenko, principal |
 |
Evgeny Ivanchenko is a tall dancer whose long limbs enable his dancing to
achieve a large scale in all his steps, especially in his space-devouring
high 'jetes' that are a joy to watch. His effortless technical bravura and
very reliable partnering are both admirable. Some however may find his
acting too bland. He is a noble Siegfried in "Swan Lake".

Danila Korsuntsev, principal |
 |
This tall and solidly built dancer, formerly of the Moscow Classical Ballet,
is an impressive virtuoso dancer as well as a sturdy partner. Korsuntsev is
a noble Prince Siegfried and Solor, an ardent Young Man in "Chopiniana", a
splendid cavalier in Balanchine's "Diamonds". He is also a dazzling Golden
Slave in "Scheherazade".

Leonid Sarafanov, first soloist |
 |
Leonid Sarafanov joined the Kirov in 2002. He is a young virtuoso able to
knock the audience down by his sparkling solos but slightly less impressive
as a partner. He is brilliant in 'Etudes' and "Vertiginous Thrill of
Exactitude". His lively Basilio with his enthusiastic smile and his
sincerity inspire the public. He is an interesting Albrecht in "Giselle",
Solor in "La Bayadere", Desire in "Sleeping Beauty".

Vasily Scherbakov, second soloist |
 |
Vasily Scherbakov has the perfect physique and classical style for the
princely roles. He is also a technically remarkable dancer. Scherbakov
excels in the pas de trios in "Swan Lake", the Mirlitons pas de trois in
"Nutcracker", the peasant pas de deux in "Giselle". As the troubadour in
"Romeo & Juliet" he impresses with his elegant sweep, power, and musicality.
In "La Valse" and "Rubies", he is flamboyant and stylish. It is a mystery
why he is not cast to dance more leading roles.

Dmitri Simeonov, second soloist |
 |
The tall Dmitri Semionov made a memorable debut as Solor in "La Bayadere"
back in the London tour of 2000. Semionov has a pleasing line, high
elevation in his jumps, and a commanding stage presence. He is also
impressive as the second cavalier in "Emeralds". Unfortunately he was
absent from the stage for over two years due to an injury, and only returned
last year.

Vladimir Shklyarov, coryphee |
 |
Vladimir Shklyarov joined the Kirov in 2003. With a brilliant academic
technique, good looks and expressiveness he has managed to become a rising
young dancer who is convincing as James in "La Sylphide", one of the two
male soloists in "Etudes", Desire in "Sleeping Beauty" and a role in "The
Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude". His partnership with Evgenia Obraztsova
in "La Sylphide" is especially good and moving.

Igor Zelensky, principal |
 |
Igor Zelensky returns to the Kirov, his home company, whenever his busy
schedule of guesting worldwide allows. Sometimes he can seem somewhat
indifferent, but this is a 100% major dance star who nobody easily ignores.
It's the terrific power of his well-centred pirouettes and the arrowy
strength of his jumps which are so imposing, and enhance his roles such as
Solor and Prince Siegfried.
This tall and atheletic blond dancer is also known as an attentive and
reliable partner, occasionally to Darcey Bussell. However it is with the
Kirov that he shows his true colours, as a man of burning eyes, powering
noiselessly through the air with all his heart as well as all his might.
