2002 is an interesting year for ENB with 2 new men at the top, Christopher Nourse and Matz Skoog who both came with a track history of success which they continued. Within a year, they had done a gig at the Royal Opera House, acquired a Mark Morris piece and commissioned a new Nutcracker. Skoog appears to be valiantly attempting to create the new classics mixed in with the income producing Swan Lakes and Nutcracker.

Comings and goings include the departure of the hugely popular Monica Perego who has established a very successful freelance career in Italy and the promising Alexis Oliveira. This has made ENB 'thin on top' with principals, especially girls (Erina Takahashi/Daria Klimentova) and are supplemented by regular guest artistes, Oaks and Edur. Skoog looks as if he operates a 'try before you buy' policy with senior dancers, examples include Gary Avis(who stayed) and the current new girl, the prize winning Elena Glurdjidze.(who I hope will stay).

The dancer views in this section were updated in November 2002 and will be next updated in October 2003. You may be interested in earlier versions of this page which we hold in archive:

The dancers' notes are written by Margaret Lumley.
