ENB lost over 20 of its 62 dancers at the end of the 98/99 season. Many of these are soloists and hence this section is somewhat thinner than usual.

Because of the number of queries we have added a where are they now section for the dancers who have recently left.

The dancer views in this section were updated in October 1999 and will be next updated in September 2000.

One half of the prize-winning Estonian husband and wife team. They returned to ENB last season as guest artists (very much ENB's gain) after a year guesting all over the world. Agnes is a beautiful blond, the epitome of a ballerina. Perhaps more to the point she is beautifully schooled and always gives excellent performances, though an unfortunate injury kept her away from the stage for a few months this year.

Agnes, with husband Thomas Edur, represent the very tops particularly in the classical repertoire. {top}

The other half of the prize-winning Estonian husband and wife team that are much in demand as guests all around the world.

Thomas is a tall dark danceur noble and a superb and subtle actor. He is absolutely heroic on stage and is the Prince personified. Beautifully schooled and consistently gives excellent performances. High jumps softly landed are a speciality and he is rightly praised by all the critics.. {top}

Chang's Web site

A small beautifully schooled Cuban very much like Teddy Kumakawa - a barrel of fireworks and real virtuoso competition dancer.

He can turn incredibly fast and has the most impressive jump. As a result Chang excels as the Gopak in the Nutcracker and as the Jester in Swan Lake. He certainly has a presence in these roles and tends to hint that he is cheeky and a bit of a flirt ! He is a wonderful Don Q and shows off his remarkable strength at doing on occasion a one arm lift. To top it all he even has his own web site! {top}

An oh-so-well schooled (Kirov trained) Russian dancer with an unforced athletic ability who can also land jumps softly - bliss!. He can be reminiscent of Baryishnikov, with a hint of a sense of humour on stage.

In the showpieces such as the Don Q and Le Corsaire pas de deux he is stunning to watch- his barrel turns are formidable. His Mercutio was one of the high points of Romeo and Juliet. {top}

An experienced prize winning Romanian dancer. A very noble stage presence with an impressive jump to boot. An elegant, understated and reliable all rounder.... excellent as The Prince in the traditional stuff but also a convincing Drosselmeyer in Deane's new production of The Nutcracker. For some he smouldered as the menacing Tybalt, though not everybody was convinced. This could be his last year - so catch his performances while you can. {top}

A prize winning Czech dancer who came from Scottish Ballet. She has a near perfect ballet physique and appears to have a Russian technique and presentation and is lovely in the Classics..

Just superb in the Bluebird pas de deux when she danced with great precision and authority with the most beautifully held arabesques that seemed to stretch and lift upwards for ever. In 1999 she continued to give sparkling performances both as Cinderella and Odette/Odile.

She is unfortunately not the automatic first choice for principal roles and so does not get her fair share of the limelight. This ought to change and she is a favourite of many of the ENB regulars. See her once and you will definitely want to see her again. {top}

A small Italian dancer from the Royal Ballet School who rapidly rose through the ranks to Principal. She is a skilled technician with high extensions, lots of attack and can turn like a top. She is a little girl with a big personality which she put to good use as the small stepsister in Cinderella for example - a ball of fury and a right little madam!

Despite excelling in the flashy stuff like the Don Q pas de deux she has matured as an actress and was a most convincing Juliet. It is unfortunate that she has the same look and feel as Tamara Rojo and since her arrival Monica appears to have been a little overshadowed. {top}

Tamara's Web site

A small Spanish/Canadian dancer who joined ENB in the summer of 1997 and immediately stated making a splash. In early 1998, at just 23, she became a Principal of the company and her Juliet at the Royal Albert Hall in June totally won over critics and audience alike....

"Her body curves in delight torn by grief and we believe. She is beautiful, moves most sweetly and she commands the vast arena she dances in with no apparent effort".
Clement Crisp, The Financial Times

She is a gifted technician with high extensions and whose turns and balances are superb. But that alone is not Tamara - what really impresses is the naturalness of her acting and the smoothness of her style. Her dramatic side just grabs you by the throat. You can't take your eyes off of her! She really is quite special and is well worth watching in absolutely anything!   {top}

A very talented prize winning French dancer who has risen rapidly through the ranks to soloist.

He moves like a gazelle, high extensions, beautiful jumps and lands softly. His Gopak in the Nutcracker is stunning. {top}

An ex Birmingham Royal Ballet dancer who joined ENB a year ago.

Small and slight but very strong and has a big jump which has been put to good use in the Neapolitan dance in Swan Lake when she is hardly on the ground. {top}

An Australian dancer from the Australian ballet who has been promoted to soloist. He is tall and dark and a natural choice for the Prince, which he has played in most of ENB Classics already.

He is elegant and his movement beautifully defined with nicely held balances though on occasion he doesn't move with his usual fluency. {top}

An English dancer from the Royal Ballet School who was promoted through the ranks to Soloist.

She has not danced a principal role recently but has been quite reliable in roles such as the stepsister in Cinderella and the variation in Who Cares. However, she does appear to be difficult to partner and is perhaps best enjoyed dancing solo. {top}

A Japanese dancer from the ENB school who has been rapidly promoted through the ranks.

She is a charming dancer who does Clara with such natural innocence. She has recently danced other roles such as the Sleeping Beauty pas de deux quite diligently and her stage presence is developing. {top}
