The all-female Cholmondeleys (pronounced Chumleys) came first, followed by their younger brothers the Featherstonehaughs (pronounced Fanshaws). Lea Anderson choreographs for both companies, and sometimes brings them together for special projects. With a visual arts background and trained at the Laban Centre, Anderson's choreography is characterised by a fascination with gesture and has a graphic, tangible quality. Performances are visibly dramatic, with brilliant costumes and music that is resonant of rock/pop. The dancers are versatile and compelling, and the idiosyncratic unison work is stunning. Both Companies have done site-specific pieces, and film and TV productions, as well as performing in more traditional venues. |
