Best Production Overall Scottish Ballet's La Sylphide
Best New Production ENB Nutcracker - with reservations
Best Revival No question - RB's Consort Lessons
Best Staging Kirov's Firebird
Best Company Kirov (probably)
Best Male Dancer Pass
Best Female Dancer Guillem as Juliet, Wildor as Anastasia
Best Partnership
Worst Production Moscow City Ballet's Giselle - by a long chalk. Fortunately the memory has receded as the year's gone on. Also Royal Winnipeg Ballet's L'Etiquette - the only ballet ever to have me squirming and thinking "let me outta here" all through it.
Worst Casting 2 unnamed (fortunately) MCB dancers as Albrecht and Hilarion in "Giselle". Really terrible dancing, acting, you name it ...
Special Mention Not precisely "favourite moments", but ... Nicola Tranah deserving a medal for getting up and carrying on as if nothing had happened after a dreadful fall in the second act of RB's Giselle after the dry ice machine went mad. Susan Jaffe's Sugar Plum fairy in ENB's Nutcracker. Worth the ticket price all on its own. Didy Veldman in Rambert's "Swansong". A very powerful argument for casting a woman in the Prisoner role, and something which I admit I'd never believed would work. The RB's Apollo fiasco - need I say more? Scottish Ballet in crisis - who'll be next? General assorted crises at the ROH and afterwards.
Eye-opener of the Year Tamara Rojo. Missed her in Sylphide with Scottish Ballet, and in ENB's Nutcracker (except for the dress rehearsal), but was very impressed with her stage personality and dancing, and am looking forward to seeing her Juliet. Jo Jewkes' column - very eye-opening! Belinda Hatley's Aurora, plus various assorted roles. Helen Highwaters of the Trocks - oh, those extensions! Not only is (s)he the only one to carry off a candy pink tutu in style, but also manages to get away with massive amounts of bright blue eyeshadow!

Special Mention Leanne Benjamin in RB Giselle - stunning. Entire cast of RB Cinderella on Thursday 15 Jan (sorry, I know that's 1998). Ashley Page and Luke Heydon's wigs in Romeo and Juliet and Giselle respectively. Teddy Kumakawa as the Bronze Idol in La Bayadere. Matthew Hart for a great workshop on Cry Baby Kreisler, and Jonathan Cope for dancing it in Dance Bites.

Mukhamedov is my best male nomination, because as he ages, the battle he has to still look spectacular gives an extra meaning to his performance. Chris Hampson for the Guinness.

Eye-opener of the Year Uliana Lopatkina's astounding performance in Swan Lake. Deborah Bull in Amores - hated the ballet, loved her - and her subsequent performance in Steptext. Bruce Sansom for Judas Tree. Roberto Bolle for being damn cute and damn good, even from the back row of the gods at the Albert Hall.

Worst Casting
Special Mention 1. Jo Jewkes for such fortitude 2. ROH management... 3. Chloe Davies (in anything and everything!) 4. All the regulars who keep coming back to the site; its lovely to see growing and prospering. Thank you!
Eye-opener of the Year 1. The final realisation that Miyako Yoshida is one of the greatest dancers around. A marvelous and expressive acting ability is now coupled to superlative technique. Her Juliet was a real treat and while I expected to enjoy it, she just took my breath away. 2. To bring new people into ballet and dance you have to give them something different. I might not always appreciate such initiatives but I've lost count of the number of people I have met who said they were at a 'normal' performance vecause they had seen the AMP or ENB Swan Lake. 3. ..but overall we are still lacking vision in ballet and where it is going. 4. The RB has the best dancers and I dearly love them(!), but the sadness is that you need good management to create the right opportunities for a company to flourish as it should.

Eye-opener of the Year I caught one performance of ex-National Ballet of Canada principal, Margaret Illman, as Lise in the Rome Ballet's revieval of Ashton's "Fille." She was spectacularly clean in her execution of Ashton's filigree steps AND has wonderful comedic timing & acting abilities. (She also has one of the most gorgeous faces in ballet, which adds to the overall effect!) I never gave much thought to Illman as a potential "true star" until now.
