Kevin O’Hare is to become the new Administrative Director of The Royal Ballet following the retirement of Anthony Russell-Roberts in March 2009.
Kevin has been Company Manager to The Royal Ballet since February 2004 during which time he has managed the day to day running of the Company, their performances in the Linbury Studio Theatre, and the overseas tours culminating in this year’s highly successful tour to China, Hong Kong and Japan.
He started his dance training with Louise Browne, then at The Royal Ballet School and, through an exchange programme, Royal Danish Ballet. He joined Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet and was promoted to Principal in 1990 (Birmingham Royal Ballet). His repertory included all the leading classical roles and works by Balanchine, Cranko, Van Manen, Tudor and Tharp, aside from numerous international guest appearances. He also created many roles, working with Frederick Ashton, Ninette De Valois, Kenneth MacMillan, David Bintley and Peter Wright, among others.
Kevin retired from dancing in 2000 to work with the Royal Shakespeare Company, training in company management and working on various productions both in the UK and overseas. He returned to Birmingham Royal Ballet as Company Manager in 2001 and joined The Royal Ballet as Company Manager in 2004. He is a governor of The Royal Ballet School.
Monica Mason, Director of The Royal Ballet, said “I’m delighted that Kevin will be succeeding Anthony in the position of Administrative Director of The Royal Ballet. Kevin has a long history with the Company and will bring his knowledge, skills, passion and commitment to this important position.”
