"Classic Fm Ballet concert"
 
   Ballet Rocks

On Friday the evening concert on Classic FM will be dedicated to pieces of muscic commisioned by Sergei Diaghilev for his company, the Ballets Russes.

The music is:

The firebird- Stravinsky

Pulcinella - Stravinsky

Daphnis et Chloe suite no 2- Ravel

The programe is on from 9.00-12.00.

   Thanks for this Ballet_Fan. Oddly enough Radio 3 is doing the same thing each morning. On CD Masters this week, classic recordings of music commissioned by Diaghilev!

   One of this morning's Diaghilev-related pieces on CD Masters was a rather extraordinary recording of Les Noces by the Pokrovsky Ensemble, a Russian Folk Group. What a sound - I'd swear they had Kate Bush and a dozen sisters in there, and our ROH Chorus sounds truly decorous by comparison! Those who don't care for Les Noces will have loathed it but, for those of us who like it, this may prove to be a real revelation. At a guess, this may not make it onto Classic FM's concert.

   Damn I missed that Ian! It sounds wonderful. One of my "most wonderful moments" was Pierre Boulez conducting Les Noces with his Ensemble Intercontemperain (sp??) at a late night Prom a couple of years ago. Stunning stuff.

   Thanks, BF. This is particularly useful as my newspaper's TV/radio supplement no longer seems to think it worth detailing radio programmes, so otherwise I would have missed it.

Ditto thanks to Ian. If I'd known earlier in the week I'd have recharged my batteries and brought my Walkman in to work.
