"Sir John Tooley - talk: 50 years of opera and ballet at Covent Garden"
| |
Thought some people might be interested in this talk by Sir John at the Ashcroft Theatre, Fairfield Halls, Croydon on 18th February at 1.05 pm. He was General Director at the Royal Opera House from 1970 onwards, and if his book about Covent Garden is anything to go by the talk should be worth going to. Pre-booked tickets £2.80, or £3.10 on the door, discounts for concessions. Box Office: 020 8688 9291 Fairfield is 5 mins' walk from East Croydon station, which is easily accessible by tram, bus and train from most Southern Region terminals. A warning if you don't know the place, though: BEWARE OF THE TRAMS! |

Oh yes - you see him frequently at events, not looking so well. We spotted him at the Royal College of Music's Albert Herring before Christmas and he squired Kiri te Kanawa at Glyndebourne last July. You see him often too at Aldeburgh (or used to, I've not been there recently). He's chair or patron of a Nureyev committee this year too. He must still be very well connected and had a fabulously intersting life - but I did find his book somewhat sour, particularly in relation to the redevelopment.
