Choreography Award winner Henri Oguike and his company present a
Programme of four contrasting dance pieces including two new works: Shot
Flow, a duet performed by Henri Oguike and Alicia Herrero-Simon, in
collaboration with fast rising Portuguese composer Pedro Carneiro and lighting
designer Guy Hoare; melancholy thoughts, a sextet to four of Astor Piazzolla’s
passionate and highly contemporary neuvo tango compositions for violin and guitar.
Henri Oguike Dance Company also present the acclaimed A moment of give, an
emotionally charged quartet set to Shostakovitch’s piano trio No.2 in E minor and
Ile Aye, a light-hearted quintet danced to a medley of popular Brazilian songs by
renowned artist Caetano Veloso.
Henri Oguike Dance Company, recent Time Out Live Awards 2001 winner as ‘Most Outstanding New Dance Company’, is passionate about the relationship between music and dance and three of the four pieces will be performed to live music. All choreography is by Henri Oguike.

In July 2001 Stratford Circus, East London’s brand new centre for all performing arts opened its doors to the public, providing a new home for east london dance. east london dance at Stratford Circus is a brand new partnership. With dance playing a very important part at Stratford Circus, east london dance works in partnership with Stratford Circus, taking advantage of the excellent facilities to bring the very best in dance to the area. Together, east london dance and Stratford Circus will continue to provide an innovative mix of dance performances, commissions, workshops, classes, events and projects for people everywhere. The east london dance at Stratford Circus programme includes an exciting variety of the best of British and international dance companies.
east london dance is the regional dance development agency for East London creating opportunities for people to take part in all kinds of dance for artistic adventure, celebration, education, fun and fitness. By programming an exciting and innovative mix of performances, commissions, workshops, classes, events and projects in a range of contexts and locations it is placing dance for all ages, abilities and cultures at the centre of the community. In September 1999 east london dance presented Roadworks - a Diversion on the A13, the first dance event of the A13 Artscape Project, set on a section of unopened motorway, against the backdrop of the huge Ford Dagenham works; and in July 2000 presented Wayne McGregor's The Field at The Rex, Stratford. In the summer of 2001 east london dance presented two unique commissioned performance events, Apart from the Road and CastleScape. Apart from the Road was an intriguing installation by Rosemary Lee (dance artist), Nic Sandiland (film maker) and Chrissie Gittens (poet). Based at Barking Central Library, Apart from the Road focused on the individual lives and personalities of a group of Dagenham school children. Wayne McGregor’s CastleScape, created for Random Dance Company and 60 young residents of Barking & Dagenham. Centring on the idea of parallel processing, and exploring identity and location, CastleScape was performed on Castle Green at Dagenham’s Goresbrook Estate.
Stratford Circus, London’s newest centre for all performing arts, only the third arts centre ever to have been built specifically for the arts in London after the Barbican and The South Bank, opened its doors to the public in the summer of 2001. The centre is a state of the art £8 million venue made possible by the largest ever Lottery grant in outer London and is situated in Theatre Square adjacent to the Theatre Royal and Stratford Picture House. With four performance spaces, meeting rooms, a computer suite, bars and café, Stratford Circus is one of the best designed, best equipped most flexible and accessible buildings of its kind in the country.
