"Chat Page and Spam"

I've just had to stop further contributions to the Chat Page because of sex spam links.

It's a sad day because the chat page was the very first bit of Ballet.co where people could talk about ballet and dance. Although we have moved on to better mechanisms for discussing dance the Chat page has always remained as a place to talk about anything and everything and with a delightful community of users.

The Chat page requires no registration, part of its charm, but I think thats impossible to carry on with given the nature of the spam. It will also start off with just a few items a day and then rapidly build up until normal chat is totally overshadowed.

I'm keen that Ballet.co continues to offer a place for the Chat community and suspect that Not Dance is probably the best and most secure place we can offer.

I'm very sad I have to say.

All best

BM

What an indictment of the times. To add a comment to some blogs you have to type in a numerical code that looks distorted so a computer can't read it: you simply copy it in yourself. I haven't had a single item of spam posted to mine in over a year - I wonder if that is a possibility here? Jim

Because there are millions of blogs, plug-in 'solutions' have emerged. That's not where we are unfortunately. Chat is based on 10-12 year old code I found when the internet was very young and newer forms of interactivity have overtaken such simple solutions. Ballet.co is a classic example of that - Chat was our first 'forum' and since then we have moved on to much better solutions for interaction. The Chat code of course has not been taken forward by the original writers.

So I'm not immediately aware of an off the shelf solution that does just what chat does. However... I'm just looking at something that might help - more later.
