"Has anyone seen Powder before?"

   Hi everybody,

The last time the Company performed Powder (part of the 2009 autumn Quantum Leaps programme) was before I joined the Company, so I'm not so familiar with it. Has anybody seen the ballet before? What are your enduring impressions of the piece?

I'm interested in anything you can share.

Cheers,

Rob.

   Hi Rob,

Of course I've seen Powder before - it's been on my "want to see again" wishlist for ages.

This work introduced me to Mozart's sublime clarinet concerto.

My memories of this piece are that it is, IMHO, very witty and enjoyable.

The ladies wear, what I would describe as, Mozartian corsets with long net skirts. The men don't wear very much!

Despite the men not wearing very much it is the ladies that I remember most from this, particularly Catherine Batchelor, Dorcas Walters and the sublime Ambra Vallo. I remember her blowing the powder at the end very vividly.

I am really pleased that this is back in the rep.

No, I haven't seen Powder before and I knew nothing about it; but Janet's reviews often make me really want to see certain productions. Mozart's Clarinet Concerto ( which I know and love ) and the men " not wearing very much!" Who could ask for more?? Can't wait to see it now!
Seriously though, it sounds as though it will be very enjoyable.

I've added some introductory notes to the website on the Quantum Leaps programme, you can read them here. They're only intended to be a brief introduction, with links through to further sources of information.

You can also view a gallery of images from last time we performed Powder by clicking here - I hope the costumes are to everybody's approval!

Let me know if you have any feedback.

Cheers,

Rob.

Coincidentally, the interview with Dorcas Walters picked up in yesterday's links here, has a photograph of her in Powder.
