"BRB return to Sadlers Wells."

BRB will be returning to their former roots at Sadlers Wells next week to give London a taste of their skills in two separate Bills.

Tuesdays26 Oct and Wednesday27 Oct they are showing Two Pigeons ( New York-rave reviews) and Werstern Symphony

Thursday Friday ,Saturday its Such Sweet Thunder which I think is a refreshing wild and inspiring change to those who need some cheering up.

I fully recommend seeing this wonderful bunch to all those who need some inspiration.

About time they did the Opera House at Covent Garden again too!! They nearly always used to fill the House with their triples- a feat in itself!

I'd prefer them to stay at the Wells, the tickets are cheaper. Even better if they came back to Liverpool!

Likewise for us in Bristol - they are sorely missed. Their last visit to the Bristol Hippodrome was in May 1999. In those days we had visits from more than one company - the same in Liverpool I guess?

Sadlers Wells is their true home. When they moved to Birmingham they promised to return annually to the Wells, they have only come down now because they cannot go somewhere else. When they were based at Sadlers Wells in the fifties they performed all over the country and managed to go abroad, it is a pity they have dropped so many venues.

True - they are normally at the Sunderland Empire at this exact time and it is closed. And we're missing them! It isn't theie fault that they've dropped vaenues though, of course, it's the fault of the Arts Council. I must say I found the recent programmes about that on Radio 4 close to pro- Arts Council propaganda, when one thinks about how ballet, for one thing, now doesn't get around the country half as far or as frequently as it used to.

Oh, it probably does, it's just that it's largely these imported Russian companies with hardly-challenging repertoire.

I still don't think it does...here in the north east we still onlt get those companies about twice a year, whereas in the 70s/90s we were getting frequent visits from the RB, SWRB, Rambert, LCDT, Ballet for All, LFB...

Much as I may agree about the decline in the amount of performances and places visited, and I concur that it is down to the funding of arts generally and dance in particular, I should point out that if Birmingham had not taken on the Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet it is highly unlikely that the company would still exist.

Any excuse to curtail the funds for touring and either reduce the company in size until it vanished, or just shut it all together would not have been far away. I have the happiest of memories of SWRB and miss many of the touring venues, not least with the old Big Top, but thank the Gods of dance that Birmingham pumped money into the company when they did. At least we do have some chance to see them now.
