Influenced by the Royal Ballet exponents of the role, our expectation is that a Firebird is quite petite and fluttering. Petite Ekaterina Kondaurova is most certainly not: but what a bird ! Ferocious, quivering, wild and commanding. No wonder she can control the monster henchmen of the villain Kostchei at will. It was certainly thrilling and I look forward to seeing her in other works in the run.
